The Spider-Man musical comes to Broadway this December.
It is ordinary for Broadway plays to make it to the silver screen after much success on stage, but it is also becoming common for the opposite to occur. Two new movies are coming to the Big Apple to debut their musical counterparts in the upcoming fall and winter seasons.

As a perfect addition to family vacation activities, Spider-Man: Turn of the Dark is finally hitting New York City after six years of development and financial negotiations. The project has one of the highest budgets in Broadway history, at a reported $50 million, according to the Associated Press.

The play, based on the Marvel Comics superhero, opens December 21 with music written by U2's Bono and the Edge. It will be showing at the new Foxwoods Theatre, previously the Hilton Theatre.

Another kid-friendly show opening this year is Elf: The Musical. Buddy the Elf and his quest to New York to find his biological father was made famous in 2003 in the film starring Will Ferrell. The cast includes George Wendt of Cheers fame as Santa, and Tony Award-winners Beth Leavel and Bob Martin.

Elf opens at the Al Hirschfeld Theater on November 10.
