Located seven miles off of the east coast of Puerto Rico lies Vieques Island, a rustic island of lush verdant mangroves and forests, idyllic beaches and glow-in-the-dark aquatic wonders of the world that must be seen to be believed. Vieques is affectionately known in Puerto Rico as "Isla Nena" (Baby Girl Island). It only takes a ferry ride or small plane trip to get to Vieques. The island is truly a destination to unwind, slow down to island time, beach-hop, swim and snorkel. A mere 21 miles long by 5 miles wide, Vieques has but two small towns: Isabel II, where the ferries dock, and Esperanza, a quintessential beachfront hangout with a malecón (boardwalk), quaint guesthouses and restaurants.
