AMMAN CITY TOUR/DEAD SEA
Amman is Jordan’s capital and a wonderful blend of the old and the new set on the hills between the Jordan River Valley and the desert. The Dead Sea is not only the lowest body of water on earth but the lowest point on earth. This ‘sea’ has the greatest concentration of minerals and sodium, so great that nothing can inhabit the water - a phenomena which results in the Dead Sea’s foreboding name.

AMMAN CITY TOUR/MADABA/MT. NEBO
Amman is Jordan’s capital and a wonderful blend of the old and the new set on the hills between the Jordan River Valley and the desert. Madaba, the “city of Mosaics,” hides a beautiful secret beneath nearly every one of its houses. Mosaics from the 5th through the 7th centuries lie (in some cases still unseen, in others discovered and preserved), under the floors of Madaba’s homes and cathedrals. Mount Nebo is the believed site of Moses’ death and burial, and has served as a pilgrimage site for Christians since the first millennium A.D.

OUR DESERT CASTLES/UMM EL JIMAL
The desert castles are structures ranging from lodges to palaces, that dot the Jordanian desert and stand as a testament to the engineering prowess of the Umayyads of the 7th and 8th centuries. The ancient Byzantine town of Umm El Jimal is constructed of black basalt in the lava lands northeast of Amman. The effect of grey-black stone against the desert landscape is dramatic and stark, with 1500 year-old ruins strewn across a long stretch of land.

JERASH/ALJOUN/PELLA/UMM QAIS

Jerash is one of the best preserved ancient roman cities in the world. Aljoun’s 12th century Arabian castle played a large role as a defensive structure against the crusaders. Umm Qais was once the roman city of Gadara, a second Athens according to scholars of the time, where the poet Theodorus made his home. The birthplace of Alexander the Great, Pella, dates to the 19th century B.C. and still holds magnificent roman ruins.
