Day 1: San Jose International Airport
Arrival at the Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO). A Swiss Travel representative will meet and greet you upon arrival and will provide you with all the necessary documentation that you will need during your vacation, such as day by day itinerary and the main contacts information and phone numbers. Then, you will be transferred to your hotel in San Jose which is approximately 20 minutes driving distance. Overnight at Doubletree Cariari by Hilton San Jose.
Day 2: San Jose – Tortuguero National Park (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
Early in the morning, you will depart from San Jose Central Valley to the Tortuguero area. On the way, you will pass through the Braulio Carrillo National Park, a flora and fauna sanctuary covered by an emerald-green mass of vegetation. Besides, you will have the chance to see from the comfort of the bus, open pasture lands, small farming towns, and will also notice a change in the climate, as it becomes a bit warmer and humid but very pleasant. After breakfast on the way, the journey will continue to the dock area deeper into our Caribbean side, where the boats are waiting to transfer you to selected lodge. A two hour boat ride, will take you through the canals sheltered in the jungle of the rain forest. From the boat, you will be able to admire the unique flora and fauna of this area. On the way to the lodge, you will have the chance to see different birds. Upon arrival, there will be a short briefing of the Pachira Lodge and the activities included during your stay, followed by lunch. In the afternoon you will visit the village of Tortuguero where you will learn the lifestyle of local residents and the significant conservation efforts that some NGOs have developed to protect the sea turtles that come to spawn each year along the 22 miles of the protected coastline. Overnight at Pachira Lodge (or similar).
Day 3: Tortuguero National Park (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
Tortuguero is a great place for ecotourism lovers. During this day and depending on the weather conditions, you can enjoy a guided hike through the jungle where you will learn how the different animals, insects and birds interact with forest plants, thus achieving a perfect balance of each species, or you can explore the secondary canals of this paradisiacal place, where you can see different species of mammals, birds and reptiles. Tortuguero offers a full contact with Mother Nature. Much of the National Park extends along its unspoiled beaches that serve as refuge for spawning of the sea turtles, this event occurs between the months of July to September. Overnight at Pachira Lodge (or similar).
Day 4: Tortuguero National Park – Arenal Volcano (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
At mid-morning the journey continues with a boat transfer back to the local dock. Upon arrival, ground transportation will be provided to the area of Guapiles, where lunch will be served. Afterwards, continue on an unescorted transfer towards the northern lowlands, this route offers the experience to pass through different towns such as Puerto Viejo (Sarapiqui), San Miguel, Venecia and Aguas Zarcas. Also, along the way you will enjoy the beautiful scenery which includes amazing views of the mountains and one of the major sources of revenue in the area: the agriculture, so you will have the opportunity according with the season to observe the crops of pineapple, bananas and sugar cane. Arrive to La Fortuna Village late afternoon where the mighty Arenal Volcano will welcome you with its impressive perfect conic shape. This volcano has been active since 1969 and it has become one of the world's most active volcanoes and one of Costa Rica's main highlights. Check In at Arenal Paraiso hotel, where you will be staying the next two nights. During the evening you will visit the world famous Tabacon Hot Springs. These natural hot springs features a hot river that flows through a series of pools. From cascading falls to tropical gardens, the hot springs are the result of rainwater heated by magma in the Earth's interior. Once heated, the waters rise to surface, taking with them minerals found in the earth's rocky crust; this way, waters become very benefic to your body because of its temperature that helps to relax muscles, clean pores and rejuvenate the skin. Tabacon is a very unique location full of natural jewels that definitely you cannot miss staying at Arenal area, dinner is included at the Hot Springs.
Day 5: Arenal Volcano (Breakfast)
This day is reserved at your disposal to enjoy the different tourist attractions that can be found nearby Arenal Volcano. If you wish to explore the area in an exciting way, we recommend a visit to the Arenal Reserve, where you will find the Sky Tram & Sky Trek. This tour combines the ascent to the top of the mountain by an aerial tram, enjoying the beautiful landscapes of the Arenal Lake, while the descent is through the famous canopy tour, which goes from one mountain to another, that makes you feel the adventure and fun. Also other optional activities are: Horseback riding, Canopy Tour, Cultural trip and much more for you to explore on your own.
Day 6: Arenal Volcano – Monteverde (Breakfast)
Morning depart from Arenal Volcano to the Monteverde Cloud Forest. This service is considered a transfer-tour, as you will be crossing by boat the Arenal Lake, which is the largest and the most important lake in Costa Rica. The first part of the trip is adorned with the beautiful scenery of the Arenal Lake. Then, will start the driving ascending through the Tilaran Mountain Range. The final portion of your journey is on gravel roads, giving you more time to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery. You will be staying the next two nights at El Establo Hotel. For the evening it is programmed a tour at Monteverde Cloud Reserve. With a naturalist as your guide, you will discover the wonders of the tropical cloudforest, when most wildlife species are active.
Strange sounds, lights and aromas will capture your imagination. During the walk, you will search for nocturnal species such as insects, bats, frogs, toads and mammals providing a different perspective of the forest.
Day 7: Monteverde Cloud Forest (Breakfast)
This day is at leisure to enjoy the optional sights and activities in the area. Perhaps pay a visit to the nearby town of Santa Elena, with its beautiful orchid garden, frog pond, serpentariums, butterfly gardens and art galleries. You could take a tour of the local cheese factory, coffee or sugar cane plantation, or take advantage of such local activities as horseback riding, bird watching and/or canopy/zipline tours.
Day 8: Monteverde Cloud Forest (Breakfast)

Day 9: San Jose International Airport (Breakfast)
Your Costa Rican adventure ends today. After breakfast, you will be transferred to San Jose International Airport for your departure flight back to the USA (breakfast included).
Please Note: When choosing your flights, please select one with a return flight that departs no earlier than mid-day, in order to accommodate the transfer time from Monteverde to San Jose International Airport (transfer takes approximately 2 and half hours).

Day 1: San Jose International Airport – Naranjo Coffee Plantations
Arrival at the Juan Santamaría Int’l Airport (SJO). Then, you will be transferred to Naranjo Coffee Plantations area which is approximately 1 hour driving distance.
Overnight at Chayote Lodge, located in the highlands of the central volcanic mountain range, here it’s possible to enjoy beautiful landscapes and the lovely architectural of the lodge that represent a tribute to the coffee stores “recibidores” that characterize this coffee region for decades.
Day 2: Naranjo – Arenal Volcano (Breakfast and Dinner)
Extensive coffee plantations and a beautiful view of the central valley of Costa Rica, will awake you this morning, then you will be pleased with a delicious Costa Rican breakfast without missing of course the fresh coffee to mark the beginning of a day that will enter into history and culture of this ancient beverage. Visit the coffee plantations of Espiritu Santo, where you will know traditional methods that transform small reddish fruits in a world coffee exports.
During the afternoon, a private transfer will take you to Arenal Volcano and stay 3 nights at Arenal Nayara Hotel

Day 3: Arenal Volcano (Breakfast & Lunch)
Today, you will enjoy a full day tour discovering the nature wonders of the northern wetlands. The tour consists of a floating safari tour along the banks of the Rio Frio in search of different species of birds, mammals and reptiles.
The Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge together with Río Frío is a biologically wetland area, one of Costa Rica's richest areas of biological diversity. Here, you will find a great variety of resident and migratory birds, three different species of monkeys, iguanas, sloths, turtles, and caimans. You will definitely enjoy it! For the afternoon return to the Arenal Volcano selected hotel for overnight.
Day 4: Arenal Volcano ( Breakfast)
This day is reserved at your disposal to enjoy (extra cost) the different tourist attractions that can be found nearby Arenal Volcano. If you wish to explore the area in an exciting way, we recommend at an extra cost a visit to the Arenal Reserve, where you will find the Sky Tram & Sky Trek. This tour combines the ascent to the top of the mountain by an aerial tram, enjoying the beautiful landscapes of the Arenal Lake, while the descent is through the famous canopy tour, which goes from one mountain to another, that makes you feel the adventure and fun. Day 5: Arenal Volcano – Guanacaste Beaches (Breakfast)
By mid-morning begins the descent from the northern lowlands to the North Pacific Coast, The first part of the transfer is adorned with the beautiful scenery of the Arenal Lake. Then, you will admire the incomparable beauty of the landscapes, which includes the tropical dry forest and its hot climate; this route will provide you with panoramic views of the Gulf of Nicoya until reach the Pan-American Highway where you will notice a change between the rainforest and the tropical dry forest that characterizes the entire Guanacaste Province. Once in the coast, you will enjoy not only the stunning views but also the beautiful beaches with generous palm trees that rise up from the beaches and gives shade to sunbathers. Day 1: LIR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT – BAGACES
Welcome to Costa Rica! Make sure to book a flight arriving early afternoon.
Upon arrival into the LIR International Airport, you will be met by a Swiss Travel representative, who will provide you with your full itinerary, recommendations, maps, contact information, and assistance with picking up your 4x4 car rental. Swiss Travel is the in-country, on-site tour operator who will be able to assist you with any questions you have throughout your getaway.
Please note: When choosing your flights, please be sure to select one that arrives in LIR early Morning - afternoon, in order to accommodate driving time from LIR Int'l Airport to the Bagases Area.
First destination will take you to the amazing location of Bagaces, near the base of the Miravalles Volcano, a region that is still undiscovered, so much so that the final road to the hotel is more 'off-road experience' but definitely guests will be rewarded staying two nights at Rio Perdido, an adventure complex where you will have facilities like, Thermal River, Zip lines, trails, Wildlife and an incredible view of the tropical dwarf forest. Rio Perdido means "Lost River", and is perfectly hidden by its host canyon and a canopy of dense flora. Day 2: BAGACES Breakfast
This morning enjoy the Canyon Adventure Park an innovated, Unique and exciting activities, full of adrenaline!
It consists of a circuit of 15 platforms: 6 of them are rock-based, 9 are suspended on the canyon walls, A pendulum cable, A 50ft “Tarzan swing, A 90ft challenge bridge, 4 via ferratas with lengths varying from 15 to over 30ft and 5 carbon fiber zip lines with lengths varying from 260 to over 800ft.
Day concludes with a soak in a secluded thermal river which offers dozens of spots to take a dip in the hot-springs or enjoy a treatment at the spa, which offers different well-practiced massages (Extra cost).
Day 3: BAGACES – ARENAL VOLCANO Breakfast & Dinner
During the morning, you'll set out for the northern lowlands, passing through towns like Cañas & Tilaran. Along the way you'll enjoy the beautiful scenery which includes amazing views of the mountains and the Arenal Lake
It's recommend a stop to Las Pumas Refuge. Passenger have to pay directly the entrance Fee, Approximate cost: $10.00 per person
This rescue Center have many exotic animals that have been rescued. Clients are able to see animals and birds that would not see in the wild or in a zoo (ie pumas, jaguars, toucans). Many are animals that have been rescued and can't be returned to the wild – their stories are all included. Kids would love it as well! Important to clarify that this is not a Zoo or animals exhibitions, this is a rescue center that encourage visitors to respect and appreciation for wildlife

Driving time: The direct trip from Rio Perdido to Arenal Volcano is approximately 2 hours – however with the recommended stops (especially Las Pumas Refuge), you should allow approximately 4-5 hours (based on a 2 to 3 hour visit to las Pumas).
Day 4: ARENAL VOLCANO Breakfast
Today you have the entire day to explore the region at your leisure. We highly recommend a visit to Arenal Volcano National Park (at an extra cost), that protects an active perfect cone volcano with constant moderate explosions accompanied by roar, gases and ash emissions that raise high in the air. The attraction of this volcano has helped to develop the area as a prime destination in the country; from being a small town of cattle and agricultural farms, it has become one of the most popular tourist areas with hotels, tour attractions, adventure activities, hot springs and water sports.
You'll have a number of other options to choose from in the area – Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge, Venado Caves, La Fortuna Waterfall, and other activities such as river floating, nature walks, hot springs, zip-lines, cultural activities, canyoning, rafting, hiking and horseback riding.
Day 5: ARENAL VOLCANO – NARANJO COFFEE PLANTATIONS Breakfast
Your drive through the Central Mountain Range will take approximately 2.5 hours, it is easy and will offer a nice look of the diversity that the country has to offer including the beautiful Naranjo Coffee Plantations
After check in at Chayote hotel, enjoy the rest of the day and evening at leisure.
Chayote Lodge can be sits amidst the growing coffee region of Llano Bonito de Naranjo. The intimate lodge boasts itself on a unique experience combining nature, culture, and of course, coffee. Guests will have the option to stay in one of the 5 rooms that have been designed to resemble a classic recibidores or coffee receiving station. Each of the individual 500 square-foot bungalows includes king bed, private sitting area, large two-sink bathrooms, and balcony with views to Poas, Barva and Irazu volcanos. The main building, hosts a restaurant, bar, terrace café, and gift store.
Day 6: NARANJO COFFEE PLANTATIONS Breakfast
Extensive coffee plantations and a beautiful view of the central valley of Costa Rica, will wake you up this morning, then you will be pleased with a delicious Costa Rican breakfast without missing of course, the aroma of fresh coffee, the perfect ingredients to start a day and go deep into the history and culture of this ancient beverage.
You will visit the Espiritu Santo Coffee plantations, where you will learn the traditional methods that transform small reddish fruits in a fine coffee export worldwide.
In the afternoon, an ecological walk along the paths of the hotel, will allow you to appreciate the flora and fauna of this region. Various species of colorful birds and mammals and plants thousand greens show us a new and different ecosystem.
Day 7: NARANJO COFFEE PLANTATIONS – MANUEL ANTONIO Breakfast
Drive to Manuel Antonio National Park and beaches to enjoy the next three nights at the first class Parador Hotel and Resort.

One of the area's main attractions is The Manuel Antonio National Park, which is one of the icons of ecotourism in our country, offering enchanting white-sand beaches ideal for swimming, and tropical rainforest forest full of with wildlife, there, you can watch for monkeys and iguanas. The immense variety of things to do and places to visit in one single day in the area will definitely add all the value to your experience in this blessed land in a lush tropical place.
Day 8 & 9: MANUEL ANTONIO Breakfast
Day at leisure to enjoy the facilities of the hotel or take part in optional activities such as rafting, horseback riding, beach swimming.
Day 10: MANUEL ANTONIO – SJO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT Breakfast
Drive back to SJO Int'l Airport to return the car and take your flight back home.
