Web Design Manager
Be part of a team that is creating new and amazing experiences for leisure travelers!
We are looking for an experienced Web Design Manager to grow and lead a small team of graphic designers, interaction designers, and information architects to deliver compelling, intuitive, and elegant user experiences for users of American Express Vacations (http://www.americanexpressvacations.com, our brand for consumers), Travel Impressions (http://www.travimp.com, our brand for travel agents), and other sites as we define them. This team also supports all design needs for the marketing organization on those sites.
As Web Design Manager, you will lead, develop, and mentor a team of designers. Candidates must have strong visual and interaction skills, and should be able to guide a team by example, contributing as necessary. You will participate in the shaping of product strategy with Product Managers, Engineering, Marketing, and other team leads. You will establish process for the team to deliver quality with efficiency, and manage the team on the day-to-day activities within an agile environment.
This position is full time and based in our Farmingdale, NY office.
Responsibilities:
- Direct and oversee product visual design for all web site and mobile projects, from concept to execution
- Manage and develop a team of designers by setting clear goals, managing resource allocations, and ensuring scheduled deliverables are met.
- Collaborate with UX, content, technology and product managers to shape ideas and solutions
- Align priorities and objectives for the design team to support business objectives and company strategy.
- Understand the customer for all sites we produce, and drive towards an intuitive, elegant, simple UX.
- Set a quality bar for the team, based on solid design principles, clear design guidelines, and a clear voice for the customer and the experience.
- Align design language with offline creative services team.
- Recruit and hire into the team, as necessary and appropriate.
- Enable and promote a collaborative and positive team environment.
- Participate in planning with other functional teams.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Master's a plus.
- Minimum 2 years managing or leading a design team.
- Minimum 5 years of design experience.
- Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Exceptional organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills.
- Strong design portfolio, preferably in the consumer space, demonstrating well-thought interaction models and design elegance.
- Fast learner.
- Team player.
