Sr. User Experience / Interaction Designer, Consumer Products

We are looking for an experienced Sr. User Experience / Interaction Designer to drive the design of the user experience for American Express Vacations (http://www.americanexpressvacations.com, our consumer brand), and Travel Impressions (http://www.travimp.com, our travel agency brand).
As a Sr. User Experience / Interaction Designer, you will be involved in all aspects of the product development process, from brainstorming, creating preliminary designs, iterating and testing design concepts, working with other designers and engineers on the feasibility of each design, through polishing and putting together pixel-perfect designs. Candidates must have very strong product design, interaction design, and visual design skills. You will work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Content Strategists, and other designers to ensure the experience we're delivering to our users is simple, compelling, and elegant.
This position is full time and based in our Farmingdale, NY office.
Responsibilities:
- Work with product and design teams to define and overall user experience vision and recommend strategically sound solutions to meet business & customer needs.
- Design flows and design concepts that illustrate specific product ideas and value to our users.
- Produce UX- and IA-related documentation, such as personas, use cases, requirements, flow diagrams, content maps, site maps, and wireframes.
- Understand the customers, in order to deliver relevant concepts and ideas.
- Apply and train others in best practices for user-centered design and user research
- Collaboration with Designers, Product Managers, Content Strategist, Engineers, Support team, and others to ensure the holistic development of a complete end-to-end user experience.
- Contribution to the design direction of the team, both tactically (technologies to use/avoid, designing high-performance UX, suggestions on technical implementation, etc) and strategically (design language, design guidelines, direction of the product, UX research, etc).
- Awareness of web-based technologies, to ensure feasible designs that are relevant to the end user (in terms of relevance for user tasks, performance for speed, and a beautiful user experience)
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Master's a plus.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating interaction design work.
- Minimum 2 years experience building compelling, simple, and elegant online user experiences for consumers.
- Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills. Must be able to clearly articulate design decisions (remember, everybody has an opinion on design).
- Ability to think and work strategically (understanding the user problem, user tasks, goals first and working with low-fidelity wireframes before moving to the pretty pictures).
- Some experience with building websites and front-end programming. Have a basic understand of the core technologies used to build a UX, and to innately understand feasibility of different designs and performance implications.
- Fast learner, self-starter.
